‘Purge 5’ Casts ‘True Detective’ Actress Leven Rambin

The upcoming fifth sequel in The Purge franchise (4th in continuity) has cast True Detective actress Leven Rambin in an undisclosed role. Rambin recently starred in WGN’s series Gone and has also been featured in Lost Child, Hunger Games, and Percy Jackson: Sea of Monsters.

Information about Purge 5 remains ambiguous. What we do know is that the untitled sequel will be distributed by Blumhouse, Platinum Dunes, and Universal, just like the other movies in the series. While it hasn’t received the most positive responses from critics, this horror series remains popular with the mass audience, with the original film The Purge (2013) collecting a total of $89.3 million worldwide and its most recent sequel The First Purge (2018) earning $137 million to become the highest grossing film in the series.

However, Purge creator James DeMonaco has revealed that the franchise will come to an end with the release of Purge 5. Its plot currently remains unknown, and the release date for the trailer has not yet been revealed. Nevertheless, the fifth movie will most likely be centered around America’s annual lawless rampage where criminal activities is legal for 12 hours. Chronologically speaking, Purge 5 will continue from The Purge: Election Year, which left us with an anti-Purge U.S. Senator Charlie Roan (Elizabeth Mitchell) surviving one yearly rampage and winning the presidential election. Debates on where this goes is currently unknown, as fans must consider whether the Purge will be banned forever or if the U.S. will end up a doomed, lawless society. Audiences should also anticipate a social commentary about the current political climate in Purge 5, which has been apparent in the previous sequels.

Universal has confirmed that Purge 5 will drop in U.S. theaters on July 10, 2020.
