Producers’ Guild Awards: The Winners

The Producers’ Guild Awards, traditionally a strong predictor of the Best Picture Oscar, were announced tonight, and in them we saw a bit of history: a tie. That’s right, the top honors were split between 12 Years A Slave and Gravity. It’s a coup for Gravity, which had been considered among the second tier of hopefuls behind 12 Years A Slave and American Hustle. It also throws the Oscar race into full-fledged mayhem, with only the Directors’ Guild Awards left as a major indicator of the Oscars’ outcome. The full list of nominees for the PGA Awards also included Blue Jasmine, Captain Phillips, Dallas Buyers Club, Her, Nebraska, Saving Mr. Banks, and The Wolf of Wall Street.

Also awarded were honors for both the Best Documentary Feature and Best Animated Feature. We Steal Secrets: The Story of Wikileaks, which was omitted from the Academy Awards’ list of nominees, took home the doc win, with Disney’s Frozen taking the top animated spot.
