Possible New ‘Fallen’ Trilogy For Gerard Butler and Lionsgate

According to Deadline, fourth, fifth and sixth entry in the Gerard Butler-led Olympus Has Fallen series will be added to the franchise. This whole new trilogy will be developed in the near future with possible spin off shows hitting the television screen. The franchise’s most recent film, Angel Has Fallen, cashed in on $130 million in the box office this August and earned over $500 million. Thus, even though recent films haven’t been well received among critics, the series continues to beat projections.

Series producer Alan Spiegel mentioned the possible expansion of the Fallen universe, with sequels branching out to TV shows that would cross internationally. The Fallen films recognize there is money outside the States, with the second film earning $143 million overseas. Given how the Fast and the Furious franchise also found success when its films went global,  it’s possible Spiegel might consider using those films as a blueprint.

At this point there is no signs that Lionsgate will head in another direction with Butler. Although the most recent film seemed to close a chapter on Mike Banning’s storyline, Spiegel remains tight-lipped about future plans and the direction of the franchise
