Pixar’s ‘Soul’ Set for Christmas Day Release As A Disney Plus Exclusive

With the ongoing pandemic still affecting movie theaters every day, it becomes less and less surprising when certain films get a shift in their release. The newest film that has been in speculation for a delay is the upcoming Pixar animated film Soul. Many expected a delay to happen after the announcement of No Time to Die being delayed till April of 2021 since it shared the same release date. Though now, Soul has been delayed yet again however it is still expecting to come out by the end of the year. As Disney Pixar’s Soul will now be released on Christmas Day 2020 as Disney Plus exclusive.

The speculation for the Pixar movie to get a digital release as opposed to theaters has been around for quite sometime especially given that the live action remake of Mulan was made into a Disney Plus exclusive. However unlike MulanSoul will not have a paywall attached to it in order to watch it.  The film will instead premiere as a standard Disney Plus exclusive, in the same way as Artemis Fowl and Hamilton premiered on the platform.

While it unfortunate that Pixar’s next outing will not get a chance to premiere in theaters, it premiering on Disney Plus does serve as a good opportunity for audiences to witness some more Pixar magic. CEO of Disney Bob Chapek, expressed a ton of excitement for the new Holiday release date for Soul. He stated that,  “A new original Pixar film is always a special occasion, and this truly heartwarming and humorous story about human connection and finding one’s place in the world will be a treat for families to enjoy together this holiday season”.  Despite the shortcoming of Soul not getting a theatrical release, this streaming exclusive release will hopefully bring families joy this Holiday season.

Soul is set for release on December 25, 2020 exclusively on Disney Plus.

Ryan Pineda: When it comes to film, animation, video games and other mediums, I can discuss for hours about how much on why certain films and animated media made me the person I am today. I adore the artistic merit that comes from a lot of pop-culture media and will definitely love to have a conversation about favorite movies any day! I have graduated in 2017 with a BA in Film and Television at the University of Arizona. Been passionate about writing about films due to always having an interesting outlook on the medium. Will always see a film and will definitely be sure to recommend it to someone that I know for a fact would love that movie. Not only that but will also give reasons for why I think that film did or did not work as a movie, and the same can go for other pieces of media like television, video games and especially animated projects.
