Pilou Asbæk has joined the cast of Aquaman 2 in an undisclosed role, via Deadline.
The from over-the-top Game of Thrones actor will be joining fellow HBO alum Jason Mamoa as the aquatic super hero. The returning cast also includes Patrick Wilson as Ocean Master, Temuera Morrison as Tom Curry, Yahya Abdul-Mateen II as Black Manta, and Amber Heard as Mera. Though there are a slew of rumors and fan petitions to recast Heard with other Game of Thrones alum Emilia Clarke, but these are just rumors for now.
Little is known about the plot and it is unclear who else will return as well as the role the former Euron Greyjoy will play. Though James Wan is returning to direct, and Warner Bros. has the utmost faith in Aquaman. With this casting it is clear that pre-production is well under way.
It will be interesting to see what role Asbæk will be playing, while he is most well-known for his villainous role in Game of Thrones, the actor is versatile enough to play any type of role. While his character left much to be desired in the latter seasons of The Song of Ice and Fire Saga, it certainly was not Asbæk’s lack of acting skill. The announced returning cast thus far is also interesting as Willem Dafoe and Nicole Kidman are most notably not on the list.
Either way the waves are drifting in favor of this sequel that is set to be released on December 16, 2022, with production happening at some point this year.
