When Ridley Scott’s Prometheus hit back in 2012, its lukewarm box office performance created a lot of doubt about the future of the Alien series. Writer-director Neil Blomkamp (District 9) had plans to get his own sequel going that would follow the series’ fourth installment, Alien: Resurrection, but those plans have since changed. Late last year, Scott was finally able to green-light a sequel to Prometheus, although it was originally teased as not having a direct tie to Alien. But soon after that announcement, the film’s unofficial title of Prometheus 2 became Alien: Covenant.
So far, a few set photos (along with a sweet title card) have been released for sci-fi fans to consume until Covenant hits theaters next year. They have teased the lovingly familiar heroine, played by Katherine Waterston, as well as some peaks at Michael Fassbender and Danny McBride. That’s nice and all, however, fans need to see more. And fortunately, a new photo was released on the series’ official Twitter account, celebrating Covenant wrapping production. While this new tease is a a small gift, it should do for now. Check it out below.

The photo shows more of Waterston, who wears the series’ signature white tank-top. Of course, Scott had to get in there somewhere, so he stands alongside his rising star. Because of 20th Century Fox’s very minor presence at this year’s Comic-Con International, it’s hard to tell when we may get to see footage. Nevertheless, Covenant is an exciting project, particularly since it will connect somehow to the original series. Keep an out for more looks at the sort-of prequel/sequel in the near future.
Alien: Covenant hits theaters on August 4, 2017.
