Pete Davidson-Led ‘The Home’ Picked Up By Lionsgate At TIFF

After screening at the Toronto Film Festival, Lionsgate has closed a deal for upcoming thriller The Home. The film is directed by James DeMonaco of The Purge and stars Pete Davidson.

As Deadline points out, this is yet another deal to come out of TIFF. After an admittedly slow start, the fest has gone on to produce countless deals, making this one of the best outings in years.

For Davidson, the news comes right before his return to Saturday Night Live serving as a host for this weekends episode, which happens to be the first episode since the WGA strike concluded. After Davidson left the show to star in King Of Staten Island, audiences can still find him on the big screen even now, starring alongside Paul Dano in Dumb Money, which also debuted at TIFF. Davidson also appeared in Transformers: Rise Of The Beasts earlier this year as Autobot warrior Mirage.

The film itself is different from what DeMonaco has taken on before. Known for his work on The Purge, The Home serves as a haunted-house type story, but in a retirement home, with patients and caretakers harboring dark secrets. Davidson stars as Max, a former foster child working at the retirement home, who gradually starts to uncover connections to his past.

“We went into The Home not knowing what to expect and James and Pete delivered an exhilarating ride of a movie that is pure suspense-filled fun and just plain bonkers. Audiences won’t know what hit them.” said Charlotte Koh of Lionsgate.

The Home is expected to get a theatrical run in the earlier part of 2024, with no set date currently announced.
