‘PAW Patrol: The Mighty Movie’ Looks To Win Box Office Over ‘Saw X’ With $22.5 Million Domestically

Saw returns to theaters this weekend with its newest entry, Saw X, but it’s not without competition. Giving the long-standing franchise sequel a run for its money is the brand new PAW Patrol: The Mighty Movie

While the weekend will be a close race, as Variety pointed out, it’s looking like the PAW Patrol will take the gold. Skipping Thursday pre-shows, the film jumped right into the swing of things on Friday, pulling in $6.8 million alone. It’s a hefty increase over the previous films gross for Friday, which took in $4.5 million. It’s looking to take home $22.5 million this weekend, which does lack in comparison to some other openings this year, but the real star of the franchise is the retail side. Over the years, it has pulled in a whopping $14 billion in retail sales.

On the complete opposite side of the MPAA ratings, Saw X pulled in $8 million in Friday sales, including $2 million in Thursday shows. Unexpectedly as well, Saw X is pulling in glowing reviews from all around. Boasting an 86% critic score on Rotten Tomatoes, the film will no doubt make a good dent into its budget of $13 million come the end of this weekend.

Third place is looking to go to Gareth Edwards newest Sci-Fi epic, The Creator. Set in the future, where both AI and the human race are battling for survival, the film stars John David Washington as military operative who lost everything he held dear, and must go on a mission to wipe out a new AI super weapon before it can be used. The film was made under an $80 million dollar budget, but is looking at a less-than-stellar weekend. With an opening day of $5.5 million, the film is only looking to take home $16 million in its first weekend. And unfortunately, as Variety points out, there’s not a huge wave of public interest to hopefully help the film in its later legs of release.

Fourth place is looking to fall to The Nun II with a $75 million total gross in the US, and fifth will be held by A Haunting In Venice, with a $30 million domestic total. Although, Venice could see competition in The Blind, looking at a weekend with $3.9 million for the Fathom release.
