Monster Hunter’s release date has been uncertain for months due to the Covid-19 Pandemic. Paul W.S. Anderson’s film based off of the Capcom game series has now been officially confirmed to open on Christmas day. This news comes just a day after a new trailer was released in China. Monster Hunter is about a portal that transports Lt. Artemis and an exclusive unit of soldiers (Milla Jovovich, Tip “T. I.” Harris, Meagan Good, Diego Boneta, Josh Helman, and Jin Au-Yeung) to a new world where monsters rule. The world is extremely dangerous, and while on it, the soldiers meet a puzzling hunter who may be their only hope to go home.
According to Screen Rant, at first Monster Hunter was going to be released on September 4, 2020, but due to the pandemic, it was delayed to April 23, 2021. It was then moved back down to 2020, to December 30th. Now that the film’s release date is coming five days earlier than scheduled, this means Monster Hunter is in competition with Patty Jenkin’s Wonder Woman 1984, which is also opening Christmas day, yet to the pandemic, box office success will differ based on region. Now that the movie’s premiere date has been changed yet again, hopefully it will remain the same this time.
