Patricia Clarkson Joins Martin Scorsese’s Adaptation Of Supernatural Horror Novel ‘What Happens At Night’ Starring Leonardo DiCaprio And Jennifer Lawrence

Patricia Clarkson will join Leonardo DiCaprio and Jennifer Lawrence in the supernatural horror film What Happens at Night, helmed by Martin Scorsese for Apple, Deadline reports. Adapted from the novel of the same name, What Happens at Night follows a couple who travel to a small European town to adopt a baby. Having to stay in a huge and largely empty hotel, they meet an odd assortment of characters, including a flamboyant singer, a slimy businessman, and a charming faith healer. As the couple struggles to claim the baby, however, the stranger things become.

The project was first announced in 2023 when Studiocanal acquired the rights to the book and Patrick Marber penned the screenplay. Scorsese, DiCaprio, and Lawrence would sign on in September of 2025. This will be DiCaprio and Scorsese’s seventh collaboration, following Gangs of New York, The Aviator, The Departed, Shutter Island, The Wolf of Wall Street, and Killers of the Flower Moon.

Now, Patricia Clarkson has signed on to join the film as well, reuniting with Scorsese and DiCaprio after their collaboration on 2010’s Shutter Island. The actress recently appeared in the biopic Lilly, the drama Monica, and She Said, about the New York Times reporters whose investigation helped launch the #MeToo movement.

What Happens at Night will be produced by Scorsese through his Sikelia Productions, StudioCanal, and Apple Studios. It is scheduled to begin production later this year.
