The largest deal at Cannes was made by Paramount Pictures when they acquired the rights to the comedy film Down Under Cover. The transaction amounted to more than $40 million for the film package. Production for the project is expected to begin in February 2020. Wyck Godfrey and Elizabeth Raposo were the main individuals from the studio who made the deal come to fruition. Other studios who made bids include Lionsgate, Sony, Netflix, and STX.
Chris Hemsworth and Tiffany Haddish are set to star in the film. Hemsworth will play the role of a detective to look into a string of casino heists, with the main suspects being a group of Australian erotic dancers. While their differences clash, Hemsworth and Haddish pair up together to solve the crimes.
While the director is not confirmed, Avengers: Endgame directors Joe and Anthony Russo are set to produce the film. This duo’s participation in the project may have helped encourage popularity of the film on the Cannes market.
Paramount has attracted a lot of attention recently for unveiling the Elton John biopic Rocketman, along with releasing its Hulu series Catch-22, which stars George Klooney, Kyle Chandler, Christopher Abbott, and Grant Heslov.
