There will officially be many more Transformers movies to come, now that Paramount has created a writers’ room helmed by Akiva Goldman (A Beautiful Mind) dedicated to future movies within the franchise, according to Deadline. Perhaps following in the footsteps of other studios’ big franchises, like Fox’s Avatar series and Disney’s Star Wars and Marvel franchises, Paramount is bringing the series to a whole other level, with returning director Michael Bay in line and waiting for what the writers’ room comes up with. Producers Steven Spielberg and Lorenzo di Bonaventura will also be ready and waiting, but Bay first has to finish his movie 13 Hours, about the Benghazi attacks, and it seems he will be expecting some great stuff ready for him when he’s done.
From the writers’ room, Paramount president Marc Evans is hoping for a multi-part sequel (following the trend of other franchises, of course) as well as future spinoffs. Though Goldsman is helming the writers’ room project, it doesn’t seem likely that he’ll actually be writing one of these future films. The Transformers franchise, inspired by the Hasbro toy line, has made billions for Paramount. The series’ latest entry, Transformers: Age of Extinction, alone raked in over $245 million.
The creation of this writers’ room seems to be a good sign for sequels and franchises, both for Transformers and for other series. Perhaps studios are finally getting the idea that while fans will always eat up sequels, it may be time to start treating these future films with the same care and attention to detail that the first movies receive rather than resting on the laurels of the past successes.
