Paramount Acquires Black List Comedy ‘Make A Wish’

Anthony Mackie in Captain America: The Winter Soldier

Make A Wish, the latest film from director Justin Simien (Dear White People) has been acquired by Paramount Pictures, according to Deadline. The Black List comedy stars Anthony Mackie (Captain America: The Winter Soldier), who plays football star Butchie Jones as he attempts to grant a dying boy’s wish to lose his virginity before he dies.

Simien is coming off the release of his debut feature Dear White People, released earlier in the year. While it doesn’t sound like Make A Wish will have the same elements of social satire, it should have Simien’s brand of humor. Mackie’s most recent experience with comedy was Michael Bay’s dark satire, Pain and Gain. He also has a role in in the upcoming Christmas comedy starring Seth Rogen and Jospeh Gordon Levitt, from 50/50 director Johnathan Levine.

No other casting or release announcements have been made for Wish, though Simien doesn’t have any other features currently lined up.
