Midas Man, a biopic film on music manager Brian Epstein has added Rosie Day (Outlander, Pixie Dust) to the roaster of cast members. Day is set to play British singer Cilla Black in the biopic. Swedish film director Jonas Åkerlund will be directing.
Åkerlund has directed films such as Lords of Chaos, Polar, and Spun. The script was written by Jonathan Wakeham, which was based on a story by Brigit Grant.
Cilla Black was born Priscilla Maria Veronica White and was undoubtedly one of the most successful and most beloved performers in the UK. She enhanced British popular culture for decades, having had 19 UK ‘Top 40’ singles with two #1 songs, 15 studio albums, and sold-out concerts at some of the world’s most famous concert venues. John Lennon and Paul McCartney wrote her debut song, “Love of The Loved.” John Lennon was the one to introduce Black to Epstein.
Midas Man will also star Emily Watson, Eddie Marsan, Omari Douglas, and Jacob Fortune-Lloyd as Epstein.
Midas Man follows Epstein’s meteoric rise to prominence at the age of 25 by discovering a slew of musicians such as Cilla Black, Gerry and the Pacemakers, and of course, The Beatles. He died in 1967 when he was only 32 from an accidental overdose of sleeping pills with alcohol.
The film will be filmed in Liverpool, London, and the United States this autumn, with an expected release date in 2022.
