Oscar Isaac Reuintes with ‘Ex Machina’ Director for ‘Annihilation’

Oscar Isaac has been taking the world by storm lately. The 37-year old actor is coming off an impressive 2015 with plethora of notable roles including his own HBO mini-series Show Me a Hero, and of course Star Wars: The Force Awakens. But one of the surprise hits of last year that Isaac was a part of is the Academy Award winning little movie that could – Ex Machina. Now it looks like Issac is aboard to rejoin director Alex Garland in his next picture Annihilation.

Along with Isaac, the film boasts in impressive cast including Natalie Portman, Jennifer Jason Leigh, Gina Rodriguez, and Tessa Thompson. The science fiction thriller script is adapted off of the first novel of the ‘Southern Reach’ trilogy by Jeff VanderMeer. The story revolves around Portman’s character, a biologist who is seeking answers to the disappearance of her husband, and volunteers for a government expedition into an area sealed off as an environmental disaster zone. She, however, finds that there is as unseen beauty, and a mysterious dark force behind this area.

This is Garland’s second film, coming off of the wildly successful low budget film Ex Machina, which was nominated for a Best Original Screenplay and unexpectedly took home the Oscar for Best Visual Effects- the low budget indie went up against big guns like Mad Max: Fury Road and Star Wars: The Force Awakens. It also produced such stars as now Academy Award winning actress Alicia Vikander (The Danish Girl) and Domhnall Gleeson, as well as adding to the insane repertoire of Isaac who is not done impressing as he still has X-Men: Apocalypse slated to release later this year. With J.J. Abrams confessing that Isaac talked him out of killing his Poe Dameron character in Star Wars, you have to wonder what kind of charm this man exudes. Annihilation is slated to begin shooting in London later this spring and will be distributed via Paramount Pictures.
