Oscar Isaac Hunts Adolf Eichmann in the Trailer for ‘Operation Finale’

The trial of Adolf Eichmann, one of the key Nazi figures responsible for the Holocaust’s effectiveness, made a lasting impact in how it highlighted the input of Germany’s citizens and bureaucratic system in murdering 12 million people. It was the lack of sadism in Eichmann’s personality and profession, despite overseeing the mass deportation of Jewish families, that led to him being perceived as a personification of the “banality of evil,” a mindset Operation Finale cleverly showcases. Played by Ben Kingsley, the now-captured ex-Nazi bluntly states “my job was simple: save the country I loved from being destroyed.”

This cold voiceover sets the tone for Operation Finale’s trailer, which follows the actions of Mossad agent Peter Malkin (Oscar Isaac) as he attempts to bring Eichmann to justice. The trailer juxtaposes between two distinct settings: the 1960 Mossad operation to capture and extract Eichmann in South America, and flashback scenes that illustrate his actions committed as member of the Third Reich. In addition to Kingsley and Isaac, the cast for this film includes Lior Raz, Melanie Laurent, Nick Kroll, Joe Alwyn, Haley Lu Richardson, Michael Aronov, Ohad Knoller, Greg Hill, Torben Liebrecht, Mike Hernandez, Greta Scacchi and Pêpê Rapazote.

Operation Finale is directed by Chris Weitz and is set to release in theaters on September 14. Check out the trailer below.
