Matt Damon made a promise to his wife while in a couples therapy session to take a break from acting unless Christopher Nolan called him, and that’s exactly what happened. In Oppenheimer, Damon plays Leslie Graves, a general that oversees the Manhattan Project.
And joining Damon in the cast of Oppenheimer are Cillian Murphy, Robert Downey Jr., Emily Blunt, Florence Pugh, Casey Affleck, Josh Hartnett, Rami Malek, Kenneth Branagh, and many more.
Damon shared with EW’s Around the Table about the promise he made to his wife. He said, “This is going to sound made up, but it’s actually true.” Damon continued, “I had — not to get too personal — negotiated extensively with my wife that I was taking time off.”
Damon stated, “I actually negotiated in couples therapy — this is a true story — the one caveat to my taking time off was if Chris Nolan called.” Damon continued, “This is without knowing whether or not he was working on anything because he never tells you. He just calls you out of the blue. And so, it was a moment in my household.”
Oppenheimer will be released in theaters on July 21st.
