British director and Welcome the Punch helmer Eran Creevy’s latest film Collide (née Autobahn) has been acquired by Open Road Films for U.S. distribution. According to Deadline, Open Road chief executive Tom Ortenberg and IM Global founder and chief Stuart Ford announced that the film will bow in U.S. theaters on April 1st.
Creevy co-wrote the screenplay with F. Scott Frazier (The Numbers Station). The action-thriller stars Nicholas Hoult (Mad Max: Fury Road) and Felicity Jones (Best Actress Oscar nominee for The Theory of Everything) as Casey and Juliette, an American couple overseas. When Juliette suddenly has medical emergency, Casey agrees to be a driver for a drug smuggling ring to raise funds. The heist goes terribly wrong and Juliette becomes a pawn in a deadly game of cat and mouse between two feuding criminals, played by Oscar-winning veterans Ben Kingsley (Gandhi) and Anthony Hopkins (The Silence of the Lambs). Casey, with his precious contraband, speeds across Germany’s high-speed highways to save Juliette in a race against time. Shot entirely in Germany, the film was previously titled Autobahn.
Originally set to be released by Relativity Media on October 30, founder Ryan Kavanaugh’s entertainment company bankruptcy filing earlier this year left the film in search of another U.S. distributor. Collide was financed by IM Global and China’s DMG Entertainment, with additional financing by Sycamore Pictures. Joel Silver produced via his Silver Pictures banner, along with Ben Pugh and Rory Aitken via 42, Brian Kavanaugh-Jones via Automatik, and Action Concept.
