‘Ocean’s Eleven’ Female Reboot Nabs Sandra Bullock for Lead

The strong push in Hollywood for equal pay and more women driven projects seems to be making waves in the industry. Look no further than the female-led Ocean’s Eleven reboot — and it seems that the project has landed a big star to lead the cast in Academy Award winner Sandra Bullock, according the The Playlist

This will actually be the second reboot in the Ocean’s films. The original Ocean’s Eleven film was led by Frank Sinatra and the Rat Pack back in 1960. The film was successfully rebooted in 2001 with George Clooney and Brad Pitt as the leads, and that led to two sequels all directed by Steven Soderbergh (Contagion).

Now it’s the women’s turn to lead the famous gang of thieves, beginning with Bullock. While no other actors have been cast to round out the eleven, it seems producers have landed a legit ring leader in the Our Brand Is Crisis actress. Bullock is no stranger to leading action-driven films. Some notables include Speed, The Heat and Miss Congeniality, and of course, who can forget her turn as a football mom in The Blind Side, which earned her a Best Actress Oscar in 2009.

Gary Ross (The Hunger Games) will direct the film with the screenplay penned by Greg Rucka (Whiteout). Ross is friends with Soderbergh, so it makes sense that he will get the opportunity to lead this project. As for the rest of the cast, there are already rumors swirling around about the Ross and Jennifer Lawrence  Hunger Games connection and the possibility of her joining the project. At this point, this is all speculation, but it’s a fun idea to think about.

George Clooney and Steven Soderbergh will produce the reboot.
