Noah Centineo Joins Dwayne Johnson in DC’s ‘Black Adam’ As Atom Smasher

Noah Centineo has joined New Line and DC‘s Black Adama spinoff based off of the anti-hero from Warner Bros. and New Line’s Shazam! starring Zachary Levy. The original Shazam! had grossed $365 million worldwide in 2019.

Centineo will play Atom Smasher, a character in the franchise who can control his molecular structure to manipulate his size and strength. The character has appeared onscreen before, in an episode of The CW’s The Flash. Dwayne Johnson will be playing the titular anti-hero, marking his first superhero role.

Specific details about the plot has not yet been revealed. Black Adam will focus on the complex DC character that was originally the arch-nemesis for Shazam, the hero. Eventually, however, the character has evolved into a more conflicted antihero rather than all evil villain, earning the title as one of DC’s more prominent characters. His origins are tied to the fictional Middle Eastern kingdom of Kahndaq and his powers are supernatural in nature.

Adam Sztykiel wrote the current script, with Jaume Collet-Serra, who helmed Disney’s forthcoming Jungle Cruise that stars Johnson, directing Black Adam. Johnson’s frequent collaborator, Beau Flynn of FlynnPictureCo., is producing along with Johnson, Dany Garcia and Hiram Garcia via their Seven Bucks Productions.

Warner Bros. has set the release date for Dec. 22, 2021.

Centineo is best known for starring as the main lover in Netflix movies To All The Boys I’ve Loved Before and To All the Boys: P.S. I Still Love You. His other credits include Sierra Burgess is a Loser and The Perfect Date. He is also leading the World War II drama The Diary, directed by Jackie Chan, and the third installment of the To All The Boys series.
