Fox has released an adventurous new trailer for Shawn Levy’s comedy Night at the Museum: Secret of the Tomb. The final film of the franchise will continue security guard Larry’s (Ben Stiller) escapades with animated exhibits and animals, this time in the British Museum in London.
The first two films of the franchise, Night at the Museum (2006) and Night at the Museum: Battle of the Smithsonian (2009), were hugely popular both in the U.S. and overseas. The frivolity began in New York City’s American Museum of Natural History and led to The Smithsonian in Washington, D.C., where Jedediah (Owen Wilson) and Octavius (Steve Coogan) were in need of rescue.
In the new film, travels to the British Museum are triggered when it is discovered that the magic (Egyptian Golden Tablet of Pharoah Ahkmenrah) that brings the characters to life is about to expire. Robin Williams returns as President Theodore Roosevelt, whom Sir Lancelot (Dan Stevens) is understandably unfamiliar with.
Additional historical characters along for the travels include Ahkmenrah (Rami Malek), Attila the Hun (Patrick Gallagher), and Sacajawea (Mizuo Peck).
Levy confessed the appeal of transporting the action overseas, saying, “We are out in London, on a double-decker bus, in Trafalgar Square. It’s a juicy idea we haven’t explored.”
Will Stiller save the magic before it’s lost forever? We can find out later this year, when Night at the Museum: Secret of the Tomb hits theaters on December 19th.
