Nick Reiner, son of Rob Reiner (A Few Good Men), is being charged with the murder of his father and mother and will be moving to trial. The son of the director was arrested only hours after Rob and Michelle were found dead in their home on December 14th of last year. Since his arrest, Nick has been detained without bail. His indictment by grand jury was revealed Wednesday, which added the legal term “lying in wait”, which means the suspect was hiding out to take their victim off guard, making it easier for the perpetrator to cause serious harm.
Nick has no official trial date but is due to appear in court for his pretrial hearing on September 15th. District Attorney Nathan Hochman said,
This was a profound betrayal by someone who was loved and trusted by the very people he is accused of killing. We hope that by having a grand jury return an indictment in this case, it will bring us one step closer to a trial and achieving justice.
Nick is being represented by a public defender, but in June tried to retrieve 1.5 million dollars in a trust to hire a private attorney, specifically Alan Jackson, who represented him briefly when Reiner was first accused. He didn’t receive the money due to the trustee, Paul Kanin.
