With the release of the upcoming biopic Michael gradually approaching, more stars are being brought on to flesh out the cast. One of whom includes Nia Long to portray Jackson’s mother, Katherine Jackson.
Coming from Antoine Fuqua, Michael chronicles the story of superstar Michael Jackson, responsible for some of the most iconic songs like “Beat It,” “Billie Jean,” and “Thriller,” among countless others. There is no confirmation if it will spend any time on the sexual abuse allegations towards children that were leveled against him.
Nia Long joins the cast as Katherine Jackson, along with Colman Domingo as Jackson’s father, Joe Jackson. Juliano Krue is onboard, playing the 9-year-old version of the singer. Jaafar Jackson, the nephew of Michael Jackson, is signed onto play the king of pop himself. The Hollywood Reporter notes that Michael is being made in cooperation with the late singer’s estate.
Long is most recognized for her work in The Best Man and Big Momma’s House, among others. She also appeared in last year’s Missing. She described Katherine Jackson as “an incredible pillar of strength and grace for the entire Jackson family.”
Director Fuqua said he was looking forward to working “alongside her as she pours all of that into Katherine Jackson: a woman who was the glue, the rock, and the heart of the Jackson family during its best and its most turbulent times.”
Michael is currently set for a release on April 18th, 2025.
