Today we finally got a more substantial glimpse at the world of Arrakis, created by Frank Herbert, through the lens of director Denis Villeneuve. This highly anticipated and star studded adaptation of the classic science fiction novel, Dune, doesn’t arrive until October, but now we have a better picture of what we can expect from this epic project.
Dune follows Paul Atreides, played by Timothee Chalamet, as he ventures to protect his family on Arrakis, which is struck with conflict over the struggle for control of the planet’s main rare natural resource. This newest trailer shows us more of the Atreides family, Duke Leto (Oscar Isaac) and Lady Jessica (Rebecca Ferguson), as they establish rule of the planet. Meanwhile, Paul is having visions of an unknown Arrakis girl (Zendaya). The family must train for the fight against the Harkonnens, a brutal and sinister house that is challenging them for power. The story culminates in a massive battle on the desert planet, which we see just a brief few shots of at the end of the trailer.
This new look at the film also shows off more of its moody cinematography in very dark and earthy tones, and a score by Hans Zimmer to complete the unique atmosphere. Fans of the book can expect a new, stylized take on the classic book from Blade Runner 2049 and Arrival director Villeneuve.
Warner Brothers will release Dune on October 23 both in theaters and on HBO Max. The new trailer can be seen below:
