The merc with a mouth comes back to the big screen this summer, for the first time since 2019. And this time, he’s bringing a friend with him.

A new trailer has been released for the third Deadpool film, dubbed Deadpool & Wolverine, starring Ryan Reynolds. As the title suggests, the film will pit Wade Wilson with Wolverine, bringing back Hugh Jackman for the first time since 2017. Deadpool has to work with an unwilling Wolverine when everything he holds dear is jeopardized. Unfortunately for him, Wolverine is none too willing to help, with the trailer explaining that the variant of Wolverine still struggles with being responsible for ruining his universe.

On top of coming after 2016’s Deadpool and 2019’s Deadpool 2, the new Deadpool & Wolverine marks Deadpool’s break into the Marvel Cinematic Universe following Disney’s acquisition of 20th Century Fox, now 20th Century Studios.

The first teaser trailer leaned into using the Time Variance Authority, introduced in Loki, to write Deadpool into the MCU. The new trailer also featured the TVA, explaining the featured Wolverine variant’s faults.

As mentioned, the last time Hugh Jackman played Wolverine, or “the X-Man” as Deadpool called him, was in James Mangold’s Logan. Jackman has been responsible for playing the character since the first time the X-Men were brought to the silver screen back in 2000.

Hollywood Reporter pointed out that even Kevin Feige, the head of Marvel, got into the spirit of the R-rating that the Deadpool series has while showcasing the film at CinemaCon. Feige used a few curse words that Deadpool as a character is very fond of, commemorating the first time an MCU film has an R-rating attached to it.

Deadpool & Wolverine comes from director Shawn Levy, who produced the film with Kevin Feige, Ryan Reynolds, and Lauren Shuler Donner.

Deadpool & Wolverine hits theaters on July 26th. Check out the trailer below.
