New Trailer for ‘The New Mutants’ Released After Two Years

Back in October of 2017, a trailer was released for a horror film set in the X-Men universe known as The New Mutants. The film was set for an April 2018 release date and was meant to be part of 20th Century Fox’s expansive X-men universe. Then the Disney-Fox merger happened, and plans changed big time for Fox, with The New Mutants suffering multiple delays. Now the film is set for released in April and  just received a new trailer.

The new trailer expands on the first by introducing audiences to some new characters from the X-men universe. Some of these characters include Magik (Anya Taylor-Joy),  Wolfsbane (Maisie Williams), and Cannon Ball (Charlie Heaton), just to name a few. This trailer also showcases more of their powers, along with the more strange and horrifying creatures in the mutant asylum. All of this is set to a remixed version of Pink Floyd’s Another Brick in the Wall, much like the original trailer.

Despite the trailer’s release, there has not been a whole lot of hype generated for The New Mutants. While the concept of an X-Men horror film seems promising, given the crazy history behind this film’s production with the constant delays and reports of re-shoots, many are feeling that the spin-off has arrived a little too late. Plus, given the lackluster reception and commercial failure of Dark Phoenix, it seems that The New Mutants could deal with a similar unlikely faith. The film could still potentially garner some attention if it receives positive reviews but, for now, fans might be more interested in the X-Men getting integrated into the Marvel Cinematic Universe.

The New Mutants is set for release April 3rd 2020. Watch the full trailer below:

Ryan Pineda: When it comes to film, animation, video games and other mediums, I can discuss for hours about how much on why certain films and animated media made me the person I am today. I adore the artistic merit that comes from a lot of pop-culture media and will definitely love to have a conversation about favorite movies any day! I have graduated in 2017 with a BA in Film and Television at the University of Arizona. Been passionate about writing about films due to always having an interesting outlook on the medium. Will always see a film and will definitely be sure to recommend it to someone that I know for a fact would love that movie. Not only that but will also give reasons for why I think that film did or did not work as a movie, and the same can go for other pieces of media like television, video games and especially animated projects.
