More promotional materials have recently emerged for Joker, the upcoming origin film about the infamous Clown Prince of Crime ahead of the upcoming festival circuit. Warner Bros. has released a new poster and trailer for the film, which provide a more detailed insight into the life of the Joker’s pre-crime identity, Arthur Fleck (Joaquin Phoenix). Fleck begins as a mocked figure who feels ignored, mistreated, and misunderstood, especially by a woman who appears to be his psychologist.
But then Fleck experiences a sense of empowerment to rise above his dark past and embody the persona he identifies with the most: a clown. Joker’s love interest also appears in the trailer, played by Zazie Beetz (“Atlanta”). It will be interesting to see the development of his character throughout the film without there being a strong emphasis on Bruce Wayne’s life.
The rest of Joker‘s cast includes Bill Camp, Marc Maron, Frances Conroy and Robert De Niro. The Todd Phillips film opens at the Venice Film Festival Wednesday, making it the first film based on a comic book to premiere there. According to Box Office Pro, Joker could make between $60 to $90 million during its opening week.
Joker is set to hit theaters October 4. Watch the new trailer below.
