New ‘The Revenant’ TV Spot and Images Surface

As we approach its Christmas Day release, the hype train is gearing up for Alejandro González Iñarritu’s The Revenant. 20th Century Fox has released new TV spot for the film on their YouTube channel while new still images from the film have also surfaced online.

Titled “Survival,” the TV spot focuses more on the main character Hugh Glass (Leonardo DiCaprio, The Wolf of Wall Street) and the films’ gritty atmosphere than the plot and camera work that were showcased in the full tr. In fact, the only lines in the film are those the character said at the end of the full trailer, “I ain’t afraid to die anymore. I done it already.” The spot also mentions Tom Hardy (Legend) as being second billed amongst the ensemble cast.

The new images focus more on the films ensemble cast with many of Domhnall Gleeson (Brooklyn) and Will Poulter’s (We’re the Millers) characters, leading us to believe they will play much larger role in the film than their brief appearances in full trailer indicate. Gleeson is coming off a big year where he appeared in Ex MachinaBrooklyn, and has yet to be seen in The Revenant as well as Star Wars: The Force Awakens while Poulter is rumored to play the evil clown Pennywise in It along with the war satire War Machine and the drama Kids in Love.

While The Revenant will release in limited theaters December 25 – to be eligible for 2015 awards consideration – the film will release wide January 8, 2016. Many believe that in a seemingly less than stellar crop of Best Actor contenders, this might be DiCaprio’s year to win an Oscar after he was denied in his performance for The Wolf of Wall StreetBlood Diamond, and The Aviator. Iñarritu last directed the dark comedy Birdman which won four Oscar including Best Picture and Best Director.
