Musician-turned-filmmaker John Maclean recently made his feature directorial debut at Sundance with the Michael Fassbender-led (12 Years a Slave) Slow West, garnering critical applause, and endowing the western genre with a freshly romantic take. The story follows a 17-year-old boy (Kodi Smit-McPhee, The Road) as he travels through the U.S. Civil War frontier in search of the woman he loves, with the mysterious stranger Silas (Fassbender) as his companion.
Already acquired by DirecTV and A24 Films back in December, three new stills from the film have been released to the public, courtesy of Entertainment Weekly. The images feature Fassbender looking like a seasoned frontiersman, offsetting Smit-McPhee’s less-equipped – both in wardrobe and gun-wielding technique – romantic innocence.
