‘New Mutants’ Release Date Set for Late August 2020

Given how long-winded the release of the X-Men spin off The New Mutants has been, many are still curious as to whether the film will finally see the light of day. It was mentioned earlier that Disney is still planning to release the film in theaters, despite many advocating that it will do better on streaming instead. In the wake of some schedule changes, Disney announced that The New Mutants is now set to release in theaters August 28th 2020.

This is the shortest delay New Mutants has seen so far, as it was initially set for April 2018 only to be delayed to August 2019 due to re-shoots that supposedly never happened. However, the film was delayed yet again to April 2020, which was canceled in turn due to the COVID-19 pandemic, putting the film on hold indefinitely with no future release in sight. Though some theaters are set to potentially reopen in July, it seemed Disney felt that August was still an appropriate release month.

Despite The New Mutants constantly being shifted around, people are still genuinely curious to see what the final movie in Fox’s X-Men universe has to offer. Even if the movie becomes profitable, it’s unlikely that it will spawn a franchise, unless Disney is planning to somehow incorporate this series into its retooled MCU X-Men. Regardless, it’ll be fascinating to see The New Mutants finally see the light of the day, provided that theaters show it for real this time.

The New Mutants is set for release August 28th 2020.

Ryan Pineda: When it comes to film, animation, video games and other mediums, I can discuss for hours about how much on why certain films and animated media made me the person I am today. I adore the artistic merit that comes from a lot of pop-culture media and will definitely love to have a conversation about favorite movies any day! I have graduated in 2017 with a BA in Film and Television at the University of Arizona. Been passionate about writing about films due to always having an interesting outlook on the medium. Will always see a film and will definitely be sure to recommend it to someone that I know for a fact would love that movie. Not only that but will also give reasons for why I think that film did or did not work as a movie, and the same can go for other pieces of media like television, video games and especially animated projects.
