New Movie Adaptation of ‘Cat On A Hot Tin Roof’ in the works

Tennessee Williams was one of America’s greatest his playwrights. Some of his most famous plays include The Glass Menagerie,
A Streetcar Named Desire, and Cat on a Hot Tin Roof. Many of his plays have been adapted into excellent movies. In 1958 Cat on a Hot Tin Roof was adapted into a movie starring Elizabeth Taylor as Maggie and Paul Newman as Brick Pollitt.

Unfortunately, due to the Hays Code at the time the Brick and Skipper’s homosexual was severely toned down and the original story’s critique of sexism and homophobia was also diminished. And while the movie was well received Williams was disappointed by the adaption. Cat on a Hot Tin Roof was later adapted into a TV movie that restored the original plays homosexual themes.

Now according to Screen Rant Antoine Fuqua is working on producing and directing a new movie adaption of Cat on a Hot Tin Roof. Fuqua is probably best known for directing the hit movie Training Day. Stephen C. Byrd and Alia Jones-Harvey, who both produced the most recent Broadway production of the play, will be working on the movie as well.

No announcements have been made about the movie’s cast, but it has been revealed that the movie will have a diverse cast. Hopefully this new modern movie will not shy away from the original play’s homosexual themes.
