New ‘Lion King’ TV Spot Premieres During Oscars Telecast With New Poster

During ABC’s broadcast of the 91st Academy Awards, the network decided to air a new ad for the upcoming remake of The Lion King, directed by Jon Favreau. This ad doesn’t showcase anything that hasn’t been seen before. The TV spot focused on the Circle of Life Sequence which was seen in the first trailer for the remake and any new shot is a similar shot to what can be seen in the original animated film. While some may say it’s refreshing that this TV spot didn’t show off anything new after witnessing Will Smith as the Genie in the Aladdin ad, it also feels a tad unsatisfying that there’s no new footage of any of the characters.

One thing that is entirely new is Disney’s new poster for the film. The poster premiered on social media, exhibiting Mufasa and a young Simba looking over the horizon. Despite the new trailer not containing a whole lot of new, at least the poster offers something.

The Lion King premieres on July 19, 2019.

Ryan Pineda: When it comes to film, animation, video games and other mediums, I can discuss for hours about how much on why certain films and animated media made me the person I am today. I adore the artistic merit that comes from a lot of pop-culture media and will definitely love to have a conversation about favorite movies any day! I have graduated in 2017 with a BA in Film and Television at the University of Arizona. Been passionate about writing about films due to always having an interesting outlook on the medium. Will always see a film and will definitely be sure to recommend it to someone that I know for a fact would love that movie. Not only that but will also give reasons for why I think that film did or did not work as a movie, and the same can go for other pieces of media like television, video games and especially animated projects.
