New Line Picks Up Next YA Adaptation from ‘If I Stay’ Author

New Line Cinema has partnered with YA author Gayle Foreman to adapt her latest novel I Was Here into a feature film, according to The Hollywood Reporter. The dramatic mystery follows Cody, an 18-year-old who goes on a long and dark journey to discover the truth behind her best friend Meg’s suicide. 

With YA adaptations being at the forefront of teen films in recent years (The Fault in Our Stars, The Hunger Games and Divergent series, and this month’s The DUFF), Foreman finds herself as one of the trend’s front-running authors. The fact that I Was Here was just published last month further proves the industry’s hunger to option these stories as soon as they hit the shelves. In addition to this recent deal, Foreman has already had her novel If I Stay turn into a hit drama among teens, and her novel Just One Day, along with its follow-up Just One Year, were recently picked up by Universal to be combined into a single film produced by The OC’s Josh Schwartz. It seems that Foreman is beginning to surpass John Green (author of TFIOS, and Paper Towns – to be released later this year) in the monopoly of “all the feels,” as the author’s website advertises.
