The upcoming biopic for legendary English musician Elton John, Rocketman, has had some new images from the film released. These stills show Taron Egerton as John in the usual flashy get up or playing the piano and they come from Paramount Pictures, who is distributing the film.
With Egerton looking a lot like a younger Elton John, as the film chronicles his early years and breakthrough in the music industry, we might see another great actor performance as a famous singer. Even with the extremely lackluster nature of last year’s Bohemian Rhapsody as a whole, Rami Malek’s performance as Freddie Mercury was for many the best part of the film. Biopic films about musicians tend to be hit or miss with their historical accuracy, portrayal of the subject, and the quality of the film in general, but it’s much too early to say how Rocketman might turn out.
Regardless of that, Egerton looks like he might own the part of John and the film seems to embrace the fantastical nature of biopic movies by being described as a “musical fantasy” with the magical nature of the footage shown in the teaser trailer from late last year.
Rocketman is directed by Dexter Fletcher from a script written by Lee Hall with Jamie Bell, Richard Madden, Gemma Jones and Bryce Dallas Howard starring alongside Egerton. It will release in the UK on the 21st of June and in the US on the 31st of May. The teaser trailer can be checked out below.
