New Horrifying Movie Posters for Godzilla and Maleficent

Two new posters of Gareth Edwards’ Godzilla and Robert Stromberg’s Maleficent have been released, each reinventing classic villains. Godzilla was first introduced in Godzilla (1954) by Ishiro Honda and Maleficent appeared first in Sleeping Beauty (1959) by Clyde Geronimi.

SXSW had an exclusive first look at the new Godzilla Poster, designed by Austin based- Studio Mundo. A fiery Godzilla is depicted, towering over buildings and rising from a cloud of smoke. The initially released 1954 Japanese Godzilla inspired the depiction.

The director, Edwards is hosting a special screening of Honda’s original Godzilla today, March 11 at 9:30 pm. It will take place at the Ritz Alamo Theatre in downtown Austin, for those attending the SXSW event. SXSW is providing this special-edition poster for those who are mesmerized by this explosive rendition of the monster. The festival is celebrating and promoting the newest Godzilla, starring Bryan Cranson (Breaking Bad), Sally hawkins (Happy-Go-Lucky), and Aaron Taylor-Johnson (Kick-Ass).

The Mouse House has released Maleficent’s newest poster (below), revealing the Oscar-Winner Angelina Jolie, with a penetrating gaze, dark cape, and curvy horns; her red lips stand out against her especially pale skin. The cast of Maleficent also includes Elle Fanning (Super 8) as Princess Aurora, in addition to Oscar-Winner Miranda Richardson (Tom & Viv), and Juno Temple (Atonement).

Both posters seem sufficiently chilling enough to excite audiences to come watch their favorite wicked characters. This May, prepare to see fiery Godzilla, in theaters May 16 and cold Maleficent, in theaters May 30.
