Brad Pitt stars as a seasoned army sergeant in the first trailer for David Ayer’s much-anticipated Fury. Set near the closing days of World War II, this tank movie showcases the battle between the U.S. and Nazi Germany on German soil.
Set in April of 1945, Pitt (Inglorious Bastards) is shown playing “Wardaddy”, a thick-skinned American commander whose lifetime of war is reflected in the scars on his face. He attempts to improve the fearful mindset of a rookie soldier played by Logan Lerman (The Perks of Being a Wallflower). Shia LaBeouf (Nymphomaniac) plays a more hardened soldier under Pitt’s leadership.
Fury’s trailer (below) shows the soldiers’ heroically embarking on a deadly quest. Pitt is willing to fight everyone and anyone to stay alive, saying “Ideas are peaceful. History is violent.” The stakes are raised when 300 Germans outnumber Pitt’s five-man crew in the Sherman tank.
Words in both the trailer and poster confirm: War never ends quietly.
Like most other war stories (Lone Survivor, Saving Private Ryan, Band of Brothers, and so on) Fury depicts a brotherhood of soldiers who protect one another’s humanity from the unnatural atmosphere of killing. That being said, this war picture sets itself apart for its heavy focus on tanks to represent the deadly machine’s contribution to its environment. For filming, an actual tank from the Second World War was loaned from the Tank Museum in Dorset.
No stranger to films centering on the impact of violence, Ayer previously wrote the Oscar-winning Training Day (2001). Additionally, he wrote and directed the 2014 Arnold Schwarzenegger movie Sabotage as well as 2012’s End of Watch with Jake Gyllenhaal and Michael Peña (who also appears in Fury).
Sony Pictures’s newest trailer of Fury leaves us armed and ready for it’s U.S. release on November 14th.
