The new Flatliners reboot trailer has dropped.
The film will star Ellen Page (Juno), Nina Dobrev (The Perks of Being Wallflower), Diego Luna (Rogue One), Kiersey Clemons (Neighbors 2: Sorority Rising), James Norton (Belle), and Kiefer Sutherland (The Lost Boys). Essentially, the premise of the film involves medical students attempting to stop their own hearts (for only a minute). They hope that this will allow them to map out what happens to people after they die, making their experiment take on scientific, theological, and metaphysical questions about our perception of reality and the afterlife. However, the medical students start to realize that their experience is changing their conscious bodies, giving them new abilities. They also become reckless, deciding to stop their hearts for longer and longer. Ultimately, this leaves them with unsettling visions and experiences that turn terrifying.
Directed by Niels Arden Oplev, Flatliners will appear in theaters on September 29, 2017. It follows the original film seventeen years after it has aired.
For those who may be curious, here is the trailer for the original film, starring Julia Roberts (Pretty Woman), Kevin Bacon (Mystic River), and Kiefer Sutherland. Released in 1990, it was directed by Joel Schumacher (The Phantom of the Opera). The similarities between the two trailers are quite potent, which may impact reception of the film.
