Cinephiles, sci-fi nerds, and Timothée Chalamet & Zendaya stans will all unite come fall of 2021 to see the highly anticipated adaptation of Frank Herbert’s novel Dune, a sci-fi adventure epic. Boasting an all-star cast and stunning set design, its directed by Denis Villeneuve, who brought us other sci-fi masterworks like Arrival and Blade Runner 2049, and shot by cinematographer Greig Fraser, who shot two Star Wars projects (Rogue One and The Mandalorian). It stars Chalamet, Rebecca Ferguson, Oscar Isaac, Josh Brolin, Dave Bautista, Zendaya, Jason Mamoa, and Javier Bardem, among other notable working actors.
The ensemble cast is sequenced together in a montage, with our protagonist Chalamet up top. Below the gang we see our lead’s character Paul Atreides walking on the sands of Arrakis. A mix of faint aqua blue and sandy beige permeate the poster, and there’s no denying that its hellbent on utilizing its stars to its full potential, as a non-Star Wars or Star Trek sci-fi movie don’t usually receive the biggest box office results (Villeneuve’s previous feature Blade Runner 2049 bombed, despite being a critic and audience favorite).
The bottom of the poster reveals the release date for the film in cinemas, which is October 22nd, which will also be able to stream on HBO Max that same day. The poster’s tagline reads ‘It Begins,” which is fitting considering the film only covers the first half of the novel. A sequel hasn’t been greenlit yet, as its planned to be a two-part story. The film is a visual feast and appears necessary to view in theaters, we’ll see if the masses agree.
