New Director Joins ‘The Huntsman’

After news last week that Frank Darabont was leaving Snow White and the Huntsman prequel, The Huntsman, Universal has now brought on Cedric Nicolas-Troyan to take over as director on the film.

The prequel was announced last summer and follows the Huntsman (Chris Hemsworth) and Queen Ravenna (Charlize Theron) before Snow White (Kristen Stewart in the original) came into their lives. Emily Blunt (Edge of Tomorrow) is rumored for the role of The Snow Queen.

Nicolas-Troyan doesn’t have any directorial credits to his name but he led the second-unit crew on the previous Snow White movie. He also worked as a special effects supervisor and earned an Oscar nomination for his work on the film.

Studios appear to trust Nicolas-Troyan with fantasy action films, as he’s also set to direct the Highlander remake. The Huntsman is currently in pre-production and set to be released on April 22, 2016.
