During the MTV Movie & TV Awards, Disney released new clip to promote the upcoming release of Marvel‘s Black Widow, which is finally hitting theaters after over year of delays. The short clip shows Scarlett Johansson and Florence Pugh as Natasha and Yelena Romanoff as they flee from gun-toting motorcyclist through tight city streets. The film also stars David Harbour as Alexei Shostakov/Red Guardian and Rachel Weisz as Melina Vostokoff, who at one point was trained in the Red Room to be a Black Widow like Natasha.
Black Widow’s official synopsis reads: “In Marvel Studios’ action-packed spy thriller Black Widow, Natasha Romanoff aka Black Widow confronts the darker parts of her ledger when a dangerous conspiracy with ties to her past arises. Pursued by a force that will stop at nothing to bring her down, Natasha must deal with her history as a spy and the broken relationships left in her wake long before she became an Avenger.”
Audiences are speculating that the film will follow in the footsteps of films like Captain America: Winter Soldier, which felt less like superhero film and more like a spy-thriller. The film also takes place prior to the events of Infinity War and Endgame, so don’t go in expecting a continuation of the universe.
Cate Shortland‘s Black Widow will release in theaters and on Disney+ Premier Access July 9, 2021.
