New ‘Assassin’s Creed’ Image Shows Michael Fassbender on the Prowl

Assassin’s Creed may be the video game movie to change the genre for the foreseeable future. It sports great cast and director, gorgeous visuals that blend future and past together seamlessly, all of which are the makings of a breakthrough film. 2016 has already seen the failure of Duncan Jones’ Warcraft, so all eyes are on Assassin’s Creed as it revs up to hit theaters this December. There has been little details revealed about the plot, although the trailer depicted an entirely new storyline, rather than simply copying the source material’s previous works.

The adaptation takes place in a creepy futuristic world, then jets all the way back to the Spanish Inquisition. Like the games, the film is injecting contemporary themes into a historical setting. Because of that concept, it requires the lead actor to take on dual roles. And Michael Fassbender, who is currently promoting his most recent work, The Light Between Oceans, is that mysterious protagonist. He’s not only a talented actor, but he’s also got some great creative people working with him.

One of his teammates is the film’s costume brilliant designer, whose stunning work has been continually showcased in the footage. The work is wonderful to behold, which has had fans begging for more. And thanks to Yahoo, the latest image of Michael Fassbender as the notorious assassin, has been released. Check it out below.

The trailer teased both other assassins that work with Fassbender, but also those who disagree with his righteous intentions. There will surely be plenty of riveting conflict between the opposing sides, particularly because of its historical setting. Assassin’s Creed truly looks like a fascinating movie, and this beautiful new image doesn’t hurt its chances of blowing audiences away this winter. If it does turn out to be what its been promising, then we may be in for a real treat.

Assassin’s Creed opens in U.S. theaters on Decmber 21, 2016.
