New Animated ‘Mr. Bean’ Film in Development

English comedic legend Rowan Atkinson will be returning to his iconic role as Mr. Bean for an upcoming animated film. Atkinson is also known for his roles in the Johnny English comedy film franchise and the sitcom Blackadder, but none of his characters have reached the same notoriety as Mr. Bean.

Mr. Bean, a clumsy and bumbling man with a talent for getting himself in strange situations started out on television before eventually making his way to the big screen. His first film, Bean, released in 1997, and a follow-up titled, Mr. Bean’s Holiday, released in 2007.

This also isn’t the first time Mr. Bean has made his way into the world of animation. In the early 2000s, a short animated series was made centered around the titular character. And now, it looks like Mr. Bean will be venturing back into animation once again, this time with a feature-length film.

In an interview with Deadline, Atkinson talked about the upcoming film. Atkinson also said that he wants to be done playing the character soon, putting an end to his legendary run as Mr. Bean.

“It’s easier for me to perform the character vocally than visually,” Atkinson said. “I don’t much enjoy playing him. The weight of responsibility is not pleasant.”

It’s possible that this animated feature may be the original Mr. Bean’s last appearance. It’s unknown if it means the end for the franchise, but it looks like Atkinson is set on stepping away from his most iconic role in the near future.
