Klaus, Netflix’s first animated feature, is getting a book titled Klaus: The Art of The Movie, according to The Hollywood Reporter. The book will showcase behind the scene artwork that was involved with the creation of this film for the streaming giant. These drawings, along with the style of animation being used for Klaus, are currently amongst the film’s distinguishing features as Polish animator Marcin Jakubowski stated that they would be using unconventional 2D animation techniques through different lighting and shadowing techniques. Pitch documents will also be included in the book.
The artwork book will be written by Animation Magazine editor-in-chief Ramin Zahed and will include an introduction by animator James Baxter, best known for his work on films like Who Framed Roger Rabbit and Beauty and the Beast. The holiday feature, a first original animated film for Netflix, will center on a postmaster named Jesper who meets Klaus, a mysterious toymaker, during his journey in Scandinavia. It’s likely that the film will have a Christmas theme due to its upcoming release during the December holiday season.
Earlier this year, an audience in Annecy, France got a first hand look at film stills and plot concepts for Klaus. The book is set to hit shelves on November 19.
