Netflix’s ‘The Deliverance’ Is An ‘Exorcist’ Style Inspired Thriller

Netflix, in collaboration with director Lee Daniels and lead Andra Day, has just dropped the trailer for an ‘Exorcist-inspired thriller,” The Deliverance, set to premiere on the streaming platform on Aug 30. The film follows the story of an Indiana family’s house that becomes haunted by a series of horrifying incidents and possessions. Day is joined by Glenn Close, Caleb McLaughlin, Mo’Nique, and Aunjanue Ellis-Taylor as the ensemble cast.

The trailer shows similarities with the original Exorcist film such as the demon latching onto the child of the family. Unlike The Exorcist, we see the family fight back with their knowledge against the demon in shots showing eerie special effects and contortions.

The Deliverance was co-written by David Coggeshall and Elijah Bynum with Daniels, who helmed the film during its development and is also one of the producers. Day and Daniels also worked together previously with The United States vs. Billie Holiday. According to Variety, Close is also set to appear alongside Daniel Craig in Netflix’s next Knives Out mystery titled Wake Up Dead Man. Close is also set to appear in many other upcoming films after The Deliverance with Daniels and Day.
