Netflix has released the official debut trailer for Unabomber, an upcoming biographical crime thriller directed by Janus Metz (Borg vs McEnroe, All the Old Knives). The film explores the psychological background and decades-long federal pursuit of domestic terrorist Ted Kaczynski.
Written by Harvard alumni Sam Chalsen and Nelson Greaves, the screenplay unfolds across two interconnected timelines. The historical narrative begins in 1958, following a 16-year-old Kaczynski (Jacob Tremblay) during his undergraduate years at Harvard University. While struggling with social isolation, the young mathematics prodigy participates in a series of controversial, covert psychological experiments conducted by influential Harvard psychology professor Henry Murray (Academy Award winner Russell Crowe). The secondary narrative jumps forward to the 1990s, chronicling the extensive multi-agency investigation led by FBI agent Joanne Miller (Shailene Woodley) as authorities attempt to track down the unidentified bomber.
The ensemble supporting cast includes Annabelle Wallis as psychologist Christiana Morgan, alongside Alexander Ludwig, Steven Ogg, and Marc Menchaca.
The feature is produced by Sophie Cassidy for 2.0 Entertainment, alongside MRC Film. Executive producers include Don Lee, alongside screenwriters Chalsen and Greaves. Principal photography took place in Montreal under the initial working title Unabom before the project was officially retitled Unabomber ahead of marketing materials.
Unabomber is scheduled to premiere globally on Netflix on September 25, 2026.
