Netflix Top Contender to Acquire ‘The Helicopter Heist’ with Jake Gyllenhaal

According to Deadline, among those bidding to acquire The Helicopter Heist, Netflix is the top contender.

Jake Gyllenhall (Demolition) will star in the fact-based drama which details a brazen 2009 robbery in Sweden in which the criminals landed a helicopter on the roof of a cash service depot building and stole over $5 million. The robbers placed decoy bombs around the roof, preventing police from landing their own helicopters. Eventually, seven were caught and sentenced for the crime.

The manuscript is from an as-yet unpublished book of the same name by Jonas Bonnier. Gyllenhaal will produce with his Nine Stories Productions partner Riva Marker. Bonnier will executive produce with his publishing agent, Niclas Salomonsson.

Netflix has also recently acquired War Machine starring Brad Pitt and Bright starring Will Smith.

The Helicopter Heist is currently in development.
