Netflix has announced release dates for its entire fall and winter seasons, with Adam McKay’s dark comedy Don’t Look Up headlining the list of buzz-worthy titles. It stars Jennifer Lawrence, Leonardo DiCaprio, Meryl Streep, Cate Blanchett, Timothée Chalamet, and Jonah Hill, among other big names.
Jane Campion’s drama The Power of the Dog, starring Benedict Cumberbatch, Kirsten Dunst, and Jesse Plemons, will also hit the Citizen Kane of streaming services this winter (is coming), as well as Rebecca Hall’s directorial debut Passing.
Netflix will release around 40 movies throughout the rest of 2021, fulfilling its promise to deliver new films every week for an entire year, as calculated by Variety.
Additional titles include Idris Elba and Jonathan Majors’ western The Harder They Fall, Melissa McCarthy’s The Starling, and Lin-Manuel Miranda’s adaptation of Tick, Tick… Boom, all of which, including the three titles previously mentioned, will play in select theaters before streaming on the Pulp Fiction of services (Kane got company!).
The Harder They Fall, which also stars acclaimed FX series Atlanta‘s Zazie Beets will release in theaters on October 22nd and on Netflix on November 3rd, which is later in their fall lineup. Similarly, Passing lands on big screens on October 27th and on the perhaps bigger Netflix on November 10th. The Power of the Dog begins the final month with a December 1st streaming release (in theaters November 17th).
Don’t Look Up, the film releasing in between DiCaprio’s collaborations with Quentin Tarantino (2019’s Once Upon a Time in Hollywood) and Martin Scorsese (Killers of the Flower Moon currently filming), hits theaters on December 10th and streams on Netflix on Christmas Eve.
