Netflix Pumps the Brakes on ‘Bright 2’

A while back Netflix released a little movie called Bright, a buddy cop movie set in a world where magic and fantasy creatures exist alongside modern technology. It starred Will Smith as a human cop who is partnered up with the first Orc cop, played by Joel Edgerton. Thematicall,y the movie was supposed to be about race relations using the racial tension between humans and fantasy creatures as an allegory for real prejudice. But many people were unimpressed with how Bright handled its message.

Despite all the criticism, Bright was successful enough for Netflix to green-light a sequel. Howeve,r according to Screen Rant, work on Bright 2 has been delayed because of Will Smith’s busy schedule. Smith is huge star and it’s not surprise he’s in high demand. However, despite all the delays, Screen Rant claimed that Bright 2 would not be cancelled, although Cinema Blend is speculating that the movie has been delayed indefinitely. Even actress Lucy Fry is uncertain when or if production on Bright 2 will begin.

Bright 2 was supposed to be directed by David Ayer, who directed the original. The original film’s script was written by notorious screenwriter Max Landis. However Landis has been the center of controversy, as several women have come forward and accused him of abuse, sexual assault, and rape. After these allegations came out lot of Landis’ projects were cancelled, and if Bright 2 ever gets made it will not involve him.
