The Producers Guild of America has just announced its nominations for the 2022 Awards. The list of nominees for outstanding production quality in films and television in this 33rd edition is mostly made up of productions from various streaming services, especially Netflix and HBO Max.
A total of 10 nominees were shortlisted for best film production, Netflix was able to snatch three of those spots. Namely, Don’t Look Up from director Adam McKay, The Power of the Dog by Jane Campion, and Tick, Tick… Boom! by Lin-Manuel Miranda. Warner Bros. grabbed two nominations for the same category for their films Dune by director Denis Villeneuve and King Richard by Reinaldo Marcus Green. Amazon Studios was able to claim one spot for the nominations with Being the Ricardos. This nomination may greatly help the film to sneak into the Oscars as well. Surprisingly, the Apple Original Films production The Tragedy of Macbeth did not make it into the list of 10 nominees this year. Two other films that were thought to make the list but eventually didn’t are Daniel Craig’s last dance as the British Royal Spy James Bond: No Time to Die and Marvel’s box-office hit Spider-Man: No Way Home.
Other nominations include West Side Story by Steven Spielberg, Licorice Pizza by Paul Thomas Anderson, Belfast by Kenneth Branagh, and CODA by Sian Heder. The 33rd annual PGA Awards will be held on Saturday, March 19, 2022, at the Fairmont Century Plaza.
