Netflix has officially released the first trailer and promotional preview for Don’t Say Good Luck, an upcoming coming-of-age musical drama starring Sunny Sandler. The feature film is scheduled to premiere globally on the streaming service on August 14, 2026.
Directed by Julia Hart (Stargirl, I’m Your Woman), the narrative centers on high school teenager Sophie Birenbaum (Sandler), who earns the lead role in her school’s stage production. However, her personal achievement is suddenly overshadowed by family hardship when her mother’s cancer returns. The plot follows Sophie as she navigates the emotional burden of her home life while preparing for her performance on stage. The screenplay was co-written by Hart, Jordan Horowitz, and Laura Hankin, adapting a semi-autobiographical story concept originally conceived by Hankin.
The supporting ensemble features Emmy nominee Melanie Lynskey as Sophie’s mother, Elizabeth, and Max Greenfield as her father, Ted. Steve Buscemi and Bebe Neuwirth portray her grandparents, while the broader cast includes Stephanie Beatriz, Jack Champion, Scarlett Estevez, Jon Lovitz, Emma McNulty, and Elyse Bell.
The production represents a joint effort between Happy Madison Productions, Range Media Partners, and Original Headquarters. Producers attached to the project include Adam Sandler, Jackie Sandler, Jordan Horowitz, Brian Kavanaugh-Jones, and Fred Berger.
